Pain Clinic

Consultant-led pain management in Coleraine

Persistent pain affects how you move, work and sleep. At Luxmedics, our pain clinic is led by Dr Ron Cooper, Consultant Anaesthetist and Pain Specialist, offering expert assessment and treatment without long waiting lists.

Clinics are held at our Coleraine location.

Meet Dr Ron Cooper

Dr Ron Cooper is a Consultant Anaesthetist and Pain Specialist. He assesses each patient individually, looking for the underlying cause of pain rather than treating symptoms alone, and builds a plan that may combine injections, medication review, and rehabilitation advice.

Every patient is seen personally by Dr Cooper — from first consultation through to any treatment and follow-up.

Conditions we see

  • Back pain, neck pain and sciatica
  • Osteoarthritis of the knee, hip and shoulder
  • Tendon and soft-tissue injuries
  • Joint pain and sports injuries
  • Nerve-related pain, including trapped nerves
  • Persistent pain after injury or surgery
  • Widespread and long-term pain conditions

If you are not sure whether your pain is something we can help with, the initial consultation is the place to start.

What we offer

A full consultation covering your history, examination, review of any existing scans or reports, and a clear explanation of what is causing your pain and what can be done about it.

Where appropriate, injections can be used to reduce inflammation and improve function.

A sample of your own blood is processed to concentrate the platelets, which are then injected into the affected joint. PRP is used to support the body’s own repair processes in conditions such as osteoarthritis and tendon injury. Suitability is assessed at consultation, and Dr Cooper will explain honestly what the evidence does and does not show for your particular problem.

Advice on what to take, what to stop, and how to manage pain day to day — including onward referral where physiotherapy, imaging or surgical opinion would serve you better.

Your visit

  1. Initial consultation — a detailed appointment with Dr Cooper to assess your pain and agree a plan.
  2. Treatment — if an injection or procedure is recommended, this may be carried out on the day or booked separately.
  3. Follow-up — we review your progress and adjust the plan as needed.

Pricing

  • Initial consultation – £235
  • PRP joint injection – £900

Prices are inclusive of the clinician’s time and the procedure itself. Any additional investigations, medications or follow-up appointments will be discussed and priced clearly before they go ahead. You will never be charged for a treatment you have not agreed to.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book directly with our pain clinic. If you have letters, scan results or a list of your current medication, please bring them with you.

The pain clinic runs from our Coleraine location.

Long enough for a thorough assessment and a proper conversation about your options. You will leave with a clear plan.

No. It is not appropriate for every type of pain or every patient, and it is not a guaranteed cure. Dr Cooper will tell you honestly whether it is likely to help in your case, and will recommend something else if it is not.

We will tell you, and point you toward the right service — including referral back to the NHS or on to a surgical colleague where that is the better route.
