Led by a Consultant in Metabolic Medicine
The clinic is led by Dr Sumana Gidwani, Consultant in Chemical Pathology and Metabolic Medicine at the Northern Health and Social Care Trust, with special interests in lipids and type 2 diabetes. As a Chemical Pathologist she provides expert interpretation of biochemistry laboratory results and clinical advice, and is clinical lead for the Regional Bowel Cancer Screening laboratory at Causeway.
Dr Gidwani graduated from NTR University of Health Sciences in India, was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in General Medicine in 2005, and gained the FRCPath (UK) in 2013 following specialist training in chemical pathology and metabolic medicine. She completed a postgraduate certificate in clinical education with distinction in 2021/22 and is actively involved in undergraduate medical teaching. She was appointed a substantive consultant in 2014.
